The end of the rainbow?

Not quite but nearly…time for some violets

Over the last few weeks we have seen lots of planting, including the addition of 150 dog violets.

It started well and I managed to get 50 plants in the ground before an operation on my hand. Once that had been done I struggled, but fortunately for me, Zak, my son and Seren’s brother came and helped with the last 100.

I have checked on them since, and although there hasn’t been much growth the plans are doing well.

I had decided to plant these particular plants because they provide good food sources for a number of butterfly species, not least the one I am really hoping to encourage: the Dark Green Frittilary.

This weekend as I was wondering around the reserve I discovered that we have a small collection of sweet violets already so…hopefully the additional plants will enhance the site further.
